Ethan Nwaneri has been urged to leave Arsenal this summer and go out on loan. The Hale Ender had a disappointing 2025/26 season despite the Gunners willing the Premier League for the first time in 22 years.
The 19-year-old made just 12 appearances under Mikel Arteta last campaign, with most of his minutes coming off the bench and his sole goal contribution coming in the Carabao Cup. The Hale Ender was sent out on loan to Marseille in January but found himself out of the team after Roberto De Zerbi left his role as head coach.
Nwaneri returned to Arsenal in May and picked up his Premier League winners’ medal after the Gunners’ match at Crystal Palace on the final day of the season. He was also part of the trophy parade celebrations before spending a week with the England senior squad in the United States as part of the Three Lions’ World Cup preparations.
The teenager has since spent his summer relaxing and will report for pre-season training in mid-July. The youngster, Arteta and Andrea Berta will need to sort his future out before the new season begins on August 21 as it’s clear Nwaneri needs to play to further his development.

Former United States international Freddy Adu insists Nwaneri is in for a tough period amid the uncertainty of where he will be playing his football next season. Speaking via BestOnlineCasino.com, Adu said: “Yeah, you’ve got to play. That’s the thing. It’s tough when a year ago, Nwaneri was the best thing since sliced bread.
“That’s how it goes, they prop you up and everything is good. Then when you hit a little bit of adversity, when things aren’t going right and you’re not in good form, everybody just piles on you and it’s really hard.
“I’ve been through this many, many times. It’s tough on Nwaneri because you feel like, give me a chance to work my way through this . There’s just no patience and it’s hard because when you’re a younger player, you need the patience. You’ve got to be patient with young players because they’re going to be inconsistent, they’re going to go through ups and downs and they have to work through that, and you have to help them work through that.

“It’s going to be tough for Nwaneri. It’s going to be hard for him, and he’s going to have the make the right decision. He might have to go on loan, and if does go on loan, he has to go to a place where he is going to play. He has to play, and play all the time. If he goes on loan and doesn’t play, that’s worse than staying at Arsenal and not playing, because there would be no point in going. It’s got to be the right place where he’s going to play, it can be a mid-table team, so long as he plays.”
It remains to be seen what the future holds for Nwaneri, with many supporters keen for him to be given a chance due to his undeniable talent. The teenager will likely be given a chance during pre-season, with the first friendly scheduled for August 1.
Nwaneri could even remain in the Premier League if he does decide to depart, with Aston Villa described as the “perfect” destination. Adu added: “Aston Villa would be a perfect team for him actually. It would be a perfect team for him.
“He’s not really going to get a chance to play at Arsenal because of the players ahead of him. They are ahead of him, and what’s he going to do? He can stay and try and fight and get that spot back, but if he’s been doing that all year and he hasn’t had a chance to play, he will be thinking to himself that he needs to play, needing that experience of 90 minute games.
“It weighs on you, and it keeps weighing on you as a young player, and your forms drops dramatically, because you’re just not getting gametime. Training is training, but games are games, and that’s the only way to take your game to another level.”
