‘House of the Dragon’ Star Abigail Thorn Wants To Play Wonder Woman For Free — But Gunn May Have Already Cast Diana
Abigail Thorn is making an open play for James Gunn’s DCU, and for once it has nothing to do with philosophy videos.
The House of the Dragon star told ComicBasics in a new interview that stepping in as Diana Prince isn’t just some dream she’d chase if asked: “Are you kidding?! I’d play Diana for FREE!”
Thorn, who plays the Triarchy admiral Sharako Lohar in House of the Dragon Season 3, lit this fuse herself when she showed up to the show’s premiere in a custom Wonder Woman-inspired gown — a look she says was built to announce her as an action star and show off the muscle she’s put on.
The moment went viral, the fancasting machine did the rest, and now she’s leaning all the way in.

Her comics taste checks out, too. Thorn credits Gunn’s Superman with pulling her into comics in the first place, and points to Kelly Thompson and Hayden Sherman’s Absolute Wonder Woman as the take on Diana that made being tall and strong feel heroic instead of awkward.
That’s the same book leading DC’s dominant 2026 Eisner field with six nominations heading into Comic-Con.
The resume is real as well: House of the Dragon, Star Wars: The Acolyte, voicing Nocturne in Baldur’s Gate 3, classical stage training, and over 1.6 million subscribers on her Philosophy Tube channel.
In a fancasting economy where Simu Liu spent January pitching Melissa Barrera for the part, Thorn at least brought receipts and a costume.
Too Bad The Role Already Looks Taken
Officially, the DCU Wonder Woman movie remains a ghost. Ana Nogueira’s script is the only confirmed element, with no director and no announced cast.

Gunn said last year that casting would not even be a conversation until the script was done.
Unofficially? As Cosmic Book News exclusively reported, our insiders say Adria Arjona is playing Wonder Woman in Man of Tomorrow, with the much-reported “Maxima” casting serving as a placeholder Gunn wrote so the character could swing either way.
The trades remain split — Deadline and Variety have said Maxima, while THR would only call it a mystery role — but per our sources, the current script has Arjona as Diana.
Worse, we’re told the character is written so generically that she’s interchangeable with Maxima, which is not exactly a ringing endorsement of the studio’s take on its most important heroine.
Whatever Thorn would bring to the role, the role may already be spoken for in a movie hitting theaters July 9, 2027.
Whose DCU Would She Even Be Joining?
Then there’s the bigger question hanging over every DCU pitch right now: how much longer this is Gunn’s DCU at all.
Supergirl just cratered with a $37 million opening that shed 70% of Superman‘s audience. Gunn’s contract may run out right as Paramount takes over Warner Bros. Discovery, and our reporting has David Ellison’s team eyeing a DC reset once the deal closes.
Campaigning to join this regime in July 2026 means auditioning for a slate that may not survive to 2028.
And if it doesn’t — if a rebuilt DC goes looking for a Diana with an actual point of view — the blueprint Thorn loves is already sitting on the shelf with six Eisner nominations.
