England take on Norway in today’s first 2026 World Cup quarterfinal: Live updates

Contrasting yellow card worry watch in the two camps today.

England have four players in their starting XI walking the yellow card tightrope, as well as the injured Jordan Henderson, while Norway have just one in their whole squad.

Nico O’Reilly, Marc Guehi, Declan Rice and Jude Bellingham would all miss a potential semi-final if they are booked and England win, whereas only Antonio Nusa is at risk for Norway.

Rice has already been booked twice at the World Cup, but his yellow card against Panama was wiped after the first suspension amnesty at the end of the group stage. The England vice-captain was then also booked against Mexico in the last 16.

The second yellow card amnesty of the tournament begins after this match, meaning no one can miss the final for the accumulation of two bookings in previous matches.

England are already missing Jarell Quansah today due to the two-game suspension he received for his sending off against Mexico, with the Bayer Leverkusen defender also in line to miss the semi-final.
