PHOENIX (AZFamily) — A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 9 p.m. for much of southern and central Arizona, including the Phoenix metro area.
From this afternoon through tonight, there is a chance for strong to severe thunderstorms capable of producing damaging wind gusts, blowing dust, small hail, heavy downpours, and frequent lightning. Not everyone in the Valley will see storms, however, and many neighborhoods could remain dry.
A Blowing Dust Advisory is also in effect until 8 p.m. for parts of southern Arizona, including Pinal County.
A few lingering showers are possible into Monday morning, before conditions turn mostly dry Monday afternoon, with a high near 108°. Another slight chance for showers and thunderstorms returns Monday night. Isolated evening showers and storms will also be possible Tuesday as highs climb to around 109°.
The monsoon pattern remains active through the week, with rain and thunderstorm chances increasing to 40% Wednesday through Friday. Storm chances decrease to around 20% next weekend, although the forecast will likely continue to evolve over the coming days.
Temperatures will gradually trend downward this week. Highs will be near 109° Tuesday and Wednesday, then cool to around 105° Thursday. By Friday and Saturday, highs may fall into the upper 90s before warming slightly to around 101° on Sunday.
