Car and illegal e-bike seized during antisocial behaviour crackdown

The joint crackdown involved West Midlands Police neighbourhood teams, the Traffic unit, Dudley Council’s specialist ASB drone officer, and Merry Hill shopping centre security staff.

The operation focused on reports of off-road bikes and vehicles being driven dangerously and in breach of a public space protection order.

Dudley Central Sergeant Qasim Ali said: “We know ASB is a concern for our residents and people who work in the Merry Hill area.

“Joint operations like this, as we’ve shown here, can lead to positive results and us seizing the vehicles causing a nuisance for our locals and being that deterrent for anyone attempting to commit crime.

“You may not always see the work that officers and the teams are doing, but I want to reassure our communities that we are patrolling in both unmarked and marked vehicles and are actively listening to your concerns.

“We’re listening to our communities and the reports being made to us, but we can only act on the information we receive.

“I would encourage anyone who has concerns around ASB in their area to come forward and report it to us.”

A vehicle was seized on Brierley High Street after the driver was found to have no insurance or licence and was driving unsupervised on a provisional licence.

An illegal e-bike was also confiscated on Lodge Crescent in Netherton.

Officers carried out high-visibility patrols throughout the evening and spoke to members of the public about the operation.

Councillor Patrick Harley, leader of Dudley Council, said: “This operation demonstrates just how effective partnership working can be in tackling antisocial behaviour and keeping our communities safe.

“By bringing together council officers, West Midlands Police, Merry Hill security staff and specialist resources such as our drone team, we were able to take direct action against those causing nuisance and disruption in the area.

“While this was a focused week of activity, it’s important to stress that tackling antisocial behaviour is something we work on all year round.”
