French Riviera bans fireworks, fuel sales and public drinking for Bastille Day celebrations

From 12 July until the morning of 15 July, the sale, purchase and distribution of fuel, flammable gases and other combustible substances in portable containers are prohibited, unless there is a justified need.

The prefecture has also banned the sale of most consumer fireworks and pyrotechnic devices to anyone without the required professional certification.

The possession and use of fireworks in public spaces, near large gatherings or residential buildings is also prohibited, with only officially organised displays permitted.

In addition, takeaway alcohol sales, the transport of alcoholic drinks and public consumption of alcohol will be banned between 6pm and 7am in dozens of municipalities across the department, including Nice, Cannes, Antibes and Menton.

Restaurants and licensed bars are exempt from the restrictions.

The prefecture also reiterated that the sale of nitrous oxide to minors, along with its possession and consumption by minors, remains prohibited as part of wider public safety measures.
