Derby County have signed former Burnley defender Charlie Taylor.

The 32-year-old has agreed a one-season contract following his release by Southampton at the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

Indeed Taylor, who can play left back or left-sided centre-half, spent last season on loan with West Bromwich Albion and made 30 appearances in total – including 18 Championship starts.

He is the Rams’ second signing of the summer after the arrival of Bobby Clark and while not as eye-catching he fills the hole in the squad vacated by Danny Batth, with whom they were unable to agree terms on a new contract.

Taylor will join established central defenders Matt Clarke, Dion Sanderson, Craig Forsyth and Sondre Langas as options in Eustace’s squad. Derry Murkin is very much the first choice left-back.

He came through the youth set-up at Leeds United before moving to the Clarets in 2017. He spent seven years at Turf Moor, six in the Premier League and then joined the Saints for a couple of seasons. In all he has made 169 Premier League appearances.

Taylor will join Derby for their pre-season preparations. Eustace’s side will face their first test of pre-season when they meet Alfreton Town in a friendly match on Friday 17th July (7pm kick-off).
