Marcello Hernández spent his first years in comedy selling tickets for shows on the street in New York’s Greenwich Village in exchange for stage time. Tonight, he is hosting the ESPYs at Lincoln Center.
The Miami-raised comedian joined Saturday Night Live in 2022 as the show’s first Gen Z cast member, and his career has been on the rise ever since. His first Netflix stand-up special, American Boy, was released in January 2026. “He was brought up well, he has real values, and he’s solid,” SNL creator Lorne Michaels told The New York Times. “I don’t want to gush, but he’s gotten better every year.”
Although he’s more private about his personal life, Hernández has been seen more frequently on red carpets with his girlfriend Ana Amelia Batlle Cabral. In interviews, he’s not been shy about his feelings. “She’s unreal. She’s a good person,” he told E! News earlier this year, adding she has “great taste.” “She loves her family. She’s obviously well educated. Has manners, ‘please and thank you.’”

Born and raised in the Dominican Republic, Batlle Cabral moved to the United States after high school. According to her LinkedIn profile, she studied at the Savannah College of Art and Design, where Batlle Cabral earned a bachelor’s degree in architecture with minors in business, architectural history, and electronic design in 2018.
She earned a master’s degree from Yale.
In 2023, Batlle Cabral completed a master’s degree in architecture from Yale University. While there, she curated an exhibition at the Yale North Gallery titled SobreMesas y Sobres, which provided a platform for Latinx peoples, migratory stories, and Latin cultural identities. She also contributed to the Yale exhibition Time Space Existence at the Venice Biennale in 2021, a project exploring concepts and media that shaped 20th century architectural design.

On an episode of the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard earlier this year, Hernández spoke about her with obvious pride. “I’m in a relationship with a Dominican girl,” he said about Batlle Cabral. ‘She’s an architect. She’s unreal. She went to Yale.”

Since graduating from Yale, Batlle Cabral has worked as an architect at the Frida Escobedo Studio in New York, a position she has held since August 2023. She has also taken on freelance projects across several disciplines. In 2024, Batlle Cabral designed and built interior furniture for a women’s publishing company. Earlier that year, she served as set designer and project manager for New York fashion brand Zepherina.
Her earlier experience includes work at Brandon Haw Architects in New York, internships at architectural firms in the Dominican Republic, and a semester abroad in Lacoste, France, studying European architecture and heritage preservation.
The couple went public in 2025.

Hernández and Batlle Cabral were first spotted together in January 2025, when gossip account DeuxMoi posted a photo of the two at the Michelin-starred Italian hotspot Marea in Manhattan. They made their red carpet debut later that year at the Happy Gilmore 2 premiere and have since attended high-profile events together, including the 2026 Met Gala.
It’s unclear how or when the couple met, but it’s clear celebrity isn’t important to Cabral. In a May 2026 GQ profile of Hernández, writer Matthew Roberson noted the actor told him that Batlle Cabral said “she was not a fan of his comedy when they met, though he has some doubts about that.”
