Rory McIlroy survived the cut line after a late charge during Round 2 of the 2026 Open Championship on Friday, July 17 at Royal Birkdale, but multiple major champions won’t play the weekend at golf’s final major of the year.
Jordan Spieth might be the most shocking early exit, after a three-putt double bogey and a quadruple bogey left him well shy of the cut line at the same venue in which he won the 2017 Open Championship. Justin Rose, Matt Fitzpatrick, Wyndham Clark and Brian Harman were also among the notable golfers who did not make the cut once the second round wrapped up in Southport, England.
