MONROE COUNTY, N.Y. — Saturday is marked with severe thunderstorms, RG&E outages, event cancellations, flash flooding, and tornado warnings in the Canandaigua and Rochester areas.
A thunderstorm warning is in effect for Geneva, Canandaigua, East Rochester, Fairport, Newark, Palmyra,
Avon, Victor, Honeoye Falls, and Bristol. It’s expected to end at 4:30 p.m.
Flash flood warning in the Rochester area
A flash flood warning is in effect by the National Weather Service for Rochester, Greece, Irondequoit, Chili, Lockport, Brockport, East Rochester, Medina, Albion, Hilton, Webster, Brighton, Gates-North Gates, Henrietta, Penfield, Spencerport, Byron, Churchville, Middleport, and Holley, until 7 p.m.
Tornado warning in the Rochester area
The weather service issued a tornado warning at 2:44 p.m.; it’s in effect until 3:15 p.m.
The warning applies to Rochester, Chili, Le Roy, Byron, Caledonia, Scottsville, Churchville, Riga, Bergen, and Elba.
The severe thunderstorm was found to be capable of producing a tornado in the Town of Byron, about seven miles northeast of Batavia, moving east at about 35 mph, according to the weather service.
Tornado warning in the Canandaigua area
There was a tornado warning in the Canandaigua area, according to the National Weather Service on Saturday afternoon. The warning has since ended as of 1:45 p.m.
The affected areas included Geneva, Canandaigua, Clifton Springs, Phelps, Bloomfield, Farmington, Gorham, East Bloomfield, Manchester, and Shortsville. The weather service said a severe thunderstorm, capable of creating a tornado, was located near Canandaigua, moving east at 35 mph.
Cancellations

The Hilton Kiddie Parade is canceled, and the village’s carnival is postponed.

RG&E customer outages
According to RG&E, as of 3 p.m., over 400 RG&E homes are without power on Saturday in Monroe County. This comes as the area is being hit with storms.
As of 12:45 p.m., the majority of the outages were located in East Rochester (over 600 customers), Pittsford (over 1,100 customers), Perinton (over 2,700 customers), and Penfield (over 1,600 customers).
