SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Sunday’s weather was beautiful in Central New York! Plenty of sunshine, low humidity, and mild temperatures, about 10 degrees cooler than normal. It hasn’t been this cool since about a month ago! However, summer heat returns tomorrow but at least we keep the sunshine as high pressure remains overhead. Then an area of low pressure arrives Tuesday with hot and humid conditions, then the risk for severe thunderstorms.
WEATHER SYSTEM SETUP SUNDAY EVENING
The forecast for the next 24 hours features sunshine this evening, low humidity with dew points in the lower 50s, and mild temperatures in the upper 60s at sunset. Clear skies tonight with temperatures dropping into the mid 50s by sunrise and some areas of patchy valley fog forming. Plenty of sunshine tomorrow, just a few pop-up isolated puffy cumulus clouds around, warm in the lower 80s and nice low humidity.
The severe weather threat for Tuesday is a slight risk for most of CNY (level 2 of 5), marginal risk for areas far north and east (level 1 of 5). The main concern is damaging wind gusts, second is pockets of large hail, third is isolated flash flooding, fourth is the risk for an isolated tornado but mainly far southwest of Syracuse. The timing is Tuesday afternoon to evening but stay tuned on updates as the timeframe may change, this system is still very far away.
SEVERE THUNDERSTORM THREAT TUESDAY
Looking ahead, there will be a big temperature change behind this strong weather system. Hot and humid on Tuesday with highs in the low to mid 80s and windy conditions. Then breezy on Wednesday and much cooler in the lower 70s! Slowly warming up through the end of the week, upper 70s Thursday, lower 80s Friday and Saturday, then mid 80s Sunday.
