Ben Crump to announce autopsy findings in Nolan Wells case Wednesday

OCEAN SPRINGS, Miss. (WLOX) — Attorney Ben Crump said he will announce the preliminary findings of an independent autopsy conducted on 18-year-old Nolan Wells on Wednesday, July 22, at the 117th NAACP National Convention in Chicago at 8 a.m.

Crump will be joined by the Wells family at the news conference.

Crump has said that his team is also conducting its own investigation into Nolan’s death. He has repeatedly called for a “full, transparent, and urgent investigation.”

Nolan was found in the water just off Horn Island on the morning of July 6. He had been reported missing the night of July 4 after he did not return from a boating trip with friends.

Nolan’s cause and manner of death have not been released. Results from the original autopsy conducted by the Mississippi State Medical Examiner’s Office are not yet available.

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has said the investigation is ongoing. Once the investigation is complete, the district attorney’s office will present the case to a grand jury. That is standard procedure for most unnatural or suspicious deaths in Jackson County.
