The body of 10-year-old Maximo Au Ramirez has been recovered from Nutimik Lake, Manitoba RCMP say.
In a release issued Wednesday evening, Lac du Bonnet RCMP said they responded to a report of a body near the shore on Nutimik Lake at 7:30 p.m.
They later confirmed it was the body of the 10-year-old who, along with his 13-year-old brother Aaron, had reportedly slipped on the rocks near Sturgeon Falls and fell into the fast-moving current on Saturday.
RCMP say the search for Aaron remains ongoing, and the family has been notified.
Allison Baker-Thiessen, who owns the Nutimik Lodge with her husband, Harry Thiessen, says the body was discovered approximately 400 yards east of the falls, and was found by a pair of local cottage owners and the brother of of the boys’ mother.
“We’re very happy that we were able to find Maximo,” she said, adding they’re now “pushing hard” to find Aaron.
“There’s still a lot of pain and we’re not done, we’re still going to keep fighting and find his brother to bring him home.”
