Players to watch in Camp
Cole Brevard DT
There are loads and then there is Cole Brevard. Listed at 6’3 346 lbs, this man is built like a truck. He was a 4 star recruit coming out of High School. He finished his career at Texas after starting at Penn State. Watching his tape, he gets off blocks very well. He looked very quick off the ball. Then , I saw a tweet that said his 10 yard split would have been the 4th highest at the combine for his position. There is a play I saw where he pushed back 4 OL on a 4th down play.
Before the drafting Peter Woods, Veach said he felt like KC was 2 or 3 players short at DT. The Chiefs also don’t have another true 1 Tech after Tonga. Brevard is my number 1 player with the best odds to make it from this UDFA class. Major sleeper.
Jacob De Jesus WR
With all this talk of who the return man is going to be for this team, I am shocked De Jesus is getting more mention. He led the Mountain West in PR yardage in 23 and 24 and KR yardage in 23. He is similar size to Dexter McCluster , who , was a very good return man for KC. He gets open underneath with quickness and suddenness. But it is his return ability that could make him a star for this team.
EJ Smith RB
Son of legendary RB Emmitt Smith, EJ shows some of the same traits his father had that made him so special. He is quick, has good lateral movement and contact balance. He also catches the ball well out of the backfield. What really seperates him from other young RB’s on this roster is his special teams work. He played a lot of teams snaps at Texas A and M. Toub mentioned him by name as a standout player at OTA’s. The other Smith better not take his roster spot for granted.
D’Arco Perkins – McAllister CB
McAllister has the size and length Spags covits . He also is a good tackler and shows off good instincts . He played inside, outside and safety in college. He also is a ballhawk , logging 6 int’s his last 2 seasons in college. But what is most intriguing is his blitzing. He had 4 sacks last season at ULM. Spags loves sending his DB’s in on the pass rush. He has shown a knack for that. Plus he plays ST’s and blocked a kick last season. This secondary is going to be tough to crack this season. However, if he shows upside and Toub likes him on teams, he could make the roster over a Kader Kohou type as a developmental corner who earns his check on special teams year one..
