First Alert Weather Day Sunday due to dangerous afternoon heat followed by severe thunderstorm potential

WAUSAU, Wis. (WSAW) – A First Alert Weather Day is in effect for Sunday with a combination of dangerous heat during the afternoon and evening, along with the potential for strong to severe storms developing toward sunset.

Heat index values will near 100° for several afternoon hours(WSAW)

Skies will slowly clear out for Saturday night, with areas of fog developing throughout early Sunday morning. There will be a very small chance of a storm toward morning far northwest, as lows drop into the mid to upper 60s.

Partly cloudy, hot, and humid on Sunday with a risk of scattered storms developing during the afternoon and evening. It is a First Alert Weather Day for the hot weather as temps will be rising into the low 90s, with afternoon heat index values in the mid 90s to around 100°.

In addition, if storms develop for Sunday afternoon and evening, they could be severe, with the main threats being damaging winds, large hail, and downpours. It is important to note that there is also a possibility that no storms develop at all due to the cap or lid on the atmosphere from warm air aloft on Sunday afternoon. This will be closely watched into Sunday evening.

A chance of morning storms on Monday(WSAW)

Continued hot and humid on Monday with a chance of storms Monday afternoon as a cold front rolls toward the region. There is the potential that storms are strong on Monday. Highs in the low 90s. Afternoon heat index in the low to mid 90s.

Temps remaing 5 to 10 degrees above normal(WSAW)

Warm and less humid Tuesday and Wednesday with a fair amount of sunshine. Highs in the mid 80s. Thursday is warm with more sun than clouds. Highs in the mid to upper 80s. Clouds Friday with scattered showers and storms possible. Highs in the low to mid 80s. Saturday is partly cloudy with highs in the mid 80s.
