New IMPD Police Chief Tanya Terry says she’s humbled to lead
Indianapolis Metropolitan Police is turning to a veteran — and making history — with the mayor’s selection as the next police chief being Tanya Terry.
On July 24, shortly before midnight, IMPD officers found a newborn baby near a trail on Lace Bark Lane and Long Wharf Drive. IMPD said officers had been dispatched to check on the welfare of a child, according to a July 25 press release.
The infant was transported to a hospital and is in stable condition, but the police say they are concerned about the safety of their mother. They are asking for anyone with any information about unidentified mother to come forward. Informants may remain anonymous.
Indiana’s Safe Haven Law allows someone to anonymously surrender an infant without prosecution. After surrender through the law, the baby is placed under Child Protective Services or a Licensed Child Placing Agency.
IndyStar requested an update on the baby and mother’s condition, but as of noon on July 26 IMPD had not responded.
