Inside Taylor Fritz’s 2026: Injury, Morgan Riddle Breakup, Comeback, and More

If there is one American eager to prove himself during the US hard-court swing, it is Taylor Fritz. Fritz has endured a difficult 2026 ATP season so far, compiling a 23-12 win-loss record. He didn’t play competitive tennis from the Miami Open until the Geneva Open in May, where he suffered an opening-round defeat.
Fritz also exited Roland Garros in the first round, but he bounced back impressively by reaching the finals of both the Stuttgart Open and the Halle Open. He carried that momentum into Wimbledon, where he reached the quarterfinals before losing to Alexander Zverev in straight sets. During that match, however, it was evident that the American was far from 100%.
What Happened to Taylor Fritz’s Knee?
The injury that flared up during the match was his recurring chronic knee tendinitis. Fritz has been managing the issue since the start of the 2026 ATP season, with the inflammation becoming severe enough for him to admit that he needed an extended break before returning to competition.
As a result, he missed four tournaments over a two-month stretch: the Monte Carlo Masters, Munich Open, Madrid Open and Italian Open. Fritz’s chronic knee tendinitis first surfaced as a minor inflammation during the ATP Tokyo event late last year.
