Clarets complete signing of French midfielder Ugo Raghouber from Lille

The 23-year-old has put pen to paper over a four-year contract at Turf Moor ahead of the upcoming Championship season.

Raghouber came through the Academy ranks at Lille and signed his first professional deal in 2021.

He spent a couple of seasons playing for their B Team and went on to have loan spells at Le Mans and Dunkerque to further his experience in senior football.

The midfielder spent the second half of last term at Levante, getting to test himself in La Liga and helping the club secure safety.

He now heads to Lancashire to play under Nicky Hayen as the Clarets aim to bounce back from relegation from the Premier League.

Raghouber becomes Burnley’s second signing of the summer after young winger Lluc Castell joined from Espanyol.

“I’m really happy to be here. It’s an amazing club, with huge history and it’s an exciting time to join,” said the new recruit.

“Once I heard of the interest in coming here, I knew I wanted to get the move done. I’m now ready for the next chapter in my career and to give my all for this club and the fans.”

Raghouber’s arrival bolsters the midfielder department following Lesley Ugochukwu’s move to Galatasaray. Florentino has also been linked with a move to Hull City following their promotion to the Premier League.

Burnley kick off the new season with a home tie against Notts County in the Carabao Cup on Saturday, August 8.

The Championship campaign gets under way the following weekend with a tough test against West Ham United, who were also relegated from the top flight last term.

New boss Hayen will be in the dugout at Turf Moor for the first time on Wednesday night when the Clarets face Espanyol. They also host Torino on Sunday afternoon to conclude the pre-season schedule.
