It’s safe to say the trend was well and truly cemented when Helen Mirren debuted her own bixie, proving just how flattering it is on mature hair.

The bixie has quickly become one of our favourite hairstyles here on the GH beauty desk. The hybrid cut is effortlessly chic and particularly flattering on fine, mature hair. But, much like most short hairstyles, it does benefit from a little styling to polish it. The trouble is, we don’t always have time to stand in front of the mirror fussing with our hair — and in this heat, we’re keeping hairdryer time to an absolute minimum.
Fortunately, Helen Mirren has the answer. In a recent video shared to Instagram, the actress demonstrated the easiest styling trick we’ve seen her rely on time and time again, whether she’s sporting longer hair or a shorter crop: a simple headband. It takes just five seconds to slip on, instantly making her bixie look polished, chic and effortlessly put together.
Her textured printed headband neatly tucks away the longer layers around her face, while her fringe back is left to frame her features beautifully. It’s a five-second styling trick that instantly makes the bixie feel more polished. Very clever, Helen.

The headband does most of the heavy lifting, making it an effortless way to add polish to your everyday look, even when time is short. That said, if you have a few extra minutes to spare, Jude says a handful of simple styling tricks can take the look up another notch.
