Aston Martin pay tribute to much-loved team member Biscuit, who has passed away

Aston Martin has shared a touching tribute to team member Mick Fern, affectionately known as Biscuit, who has sadly passed away.

Fern spent 35 years in the F1 paddock and has worked on and off for the Silverstone-based squad through various guises since 1999, when it was still Jordan.

He most recently rejoined in 2015 and was a much-loved member of the Formula 1 community. He was absent from the recent Hungarian Grand Prix, with the team and wider paddock wishing him well.

As a tyre technician, he was responsible for the tyres on one half of the Aston Martin garage on a race weekend, and was interviewed as part of a Sky Sports F1 inside look last season, when he was working on Lance Stroll’s side of the team.

Fern was also showcased by Aston Martin in 2021 alongside colleague Jim Duffy, in a behind-the-scenes look at the life of an F1 tyre over a grand prix weekend.

He was one of the team’s biggest characters and was always friendly and ready to assist team-mates or share insights with guests in the garage.

In a social media post, Aston Martin said: “The thoughts of the entire team and F1 community are with the family and friends of our teammate, Mick Fern, affectionately known to so many of us as Biscuit, who passed away peacefully today.

“Biscuit was a true stalwart who showed loyalty and support to all those around him. He welcomed everyone with open arms and made our travelling world feel more like home.

“Biscuit spent 35 years in the paddock, and he was respected by all who worked with him. We are all so grateful for our time together and will dearly miss his warmth and humour.”

Fern passed away peacefully surrounded by his family and friends.

The whole RacingNews365 team offers our sincere condolences to Mick’s family, friends and colleagues at Aston Martin at this sad time.
