The 2026 NFL training camps have kicked off around the league, and our team reporters are on the ground each day following all the action. The New York Jets camp is taking place at the Atlantic Health Training Facility in Florham Park, New Jersey, and Jets reporter Rich Cimini has the latest intel on standouts, highlights, position battles, depth chart movement, cut decisions and of course the quarterback room.
What follows is everything we are seeing and hearing at Jets camp. We will update this file often. Who are the breakout players to watch, especially for fantasy football, and which players on the roster bubble could make the final 53?

Wednesday, July 29
The Jets made a concerted effort to add veteran leadership in the offseason. Wide receiver Garrett Wilson already has noticed a difference, saying Demario Davis, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Geno Smith and Tim Patrick “have a different way of seeing things” because of their experiences on other teams.
“They don’t have any past association with the last, maybe blunders we’ve had,” Wilson said Wednesday after the first practice. “And because of that, they’re bringing this winning mindset, winning energy that us as the younger guys and looking up to guys like that, we’re trying to just latch onto it and get a better idea of what it takes to win at that level because they’ve done it before.”
Wilson was referring to recent blunders, obviously, because Davis and Smith were members of the team a decade ago. In fact, they played on the Jets’ last winning team — 2015. Wilson’s four seasons in New York have been particularly rough — a 22-46 record, tied for fourth worst. It’s no wonder that, when asked to name his goal this season, Wilson replied, “Just playing meaningful football.”
The Jets’ hope is that the older veterans can provide leadership (and production), helping to guide what remains a relatively young roster.

Second-round pick D’Angelo Ponds is out with a strained calf. It’s not a serious injury, according to coach Aaron Glenn. DT Mazi Smith left practice with a hamstring injury.

Edge rusher David Bailey flashed his closing speed on a pass play, pressuring QB Geno Smith. On another play, though, he got knocked down by RT Armand Membou. The Jets are counting on Bailey, drafted No. 2 overall in April, to play a major role.

It sounds like there are no contract extensions on the horizon. After extending RB Breece Hall and RG Joe Tippmann in the offseason, GM Darren Mougey said they’re in “a good spot.”

The competition for the No. 2 QB job will be one to watch. Fourth-round pick Cade Klubnik might be the early favorite, but he will have to earn the position with a strong preseason. He got off to a shaky start, throwing an interception Wednesday — a deflected pass. Mougey said he’s excited to see how Klubnik performs in camp. The other option is journeyman Bailey Zappe. Yes, it’s possible they could add a veteran at some point.

Both Glenn and Mougey declined to elaborate on Smith’s recent dispute with a former girlfriend, which went viral on social media and resulted in a police investigation that yielded no charges. Glenn called it a “distraction” for the team, but he praised Smith for the way he handled the fallout. “We’re with him 100%,” Glenn said.

Three years ago, the Jets were the hot story in the NFL. They had quarterback Aaron Rodgers and Super Bowl expectations, and the mania that summer was chronicled by HBO’s “Hard Knocks.” The Jets embraced the spotlight. That includes the usually reticent owner Woody Johnson, who wore a gaudy “WOODY” neck chain in one of the episodes.
It’s a lot quieter now. Running back Breece Hall, for one, welcomes the change.
“In the past, we’ve had a lot of craziness and turmoil and stuff — a lot of switch over and turnover,” he said Tuesday after reporting to camp with the other veterans.

And now?
“There’s a lot more organizational stability, which helps the players because I feel like the players are only going to be as good as the organization is,” Hall said. “You can’t have good players and not have a stable organization and still be a good team.”
The Jets have the same coach and general manager as last season — Aaron Glenn and Darren Mougey, respectively — but they have a new-look coaching staff. Glenn fired half his staff after last season, including two coordinators.
Hall, beginning his fifth season, believes they finally have the right pieces in place. Time will tell.

Edge rusher Joseph Ossai was placed on the physically unable to perform list, as he was unable to pass the physical (undisclosed reason). Ossai was one of the team’s key acquisitions this offseason, leaving the Bengals to sign a three-year, $34.5 million deal with New York.

Linebacker Demario Davis is a big believer in Glenn: “There are 90 men in that locker room who will run through a wall for him.”
