Singer Noah Kahan fired back at the White House for using his song “American Cars” in an Instagram post, adding to a long list of musicians who have spoken out against the administration for using their music without permission.
“Would never approve of my music being used in support of you or this administration,” the “Stick Season” singer commented on the post.
The White House’s post features President Donald Trump visiting the General Motors’ Milford Proving Ground in Detroit on Monday, where he told workers that he is bringing auto jobs back to America.
“For decades, globalists sold out Michigan autoworkers, shipping jobs overseas and gutting Detroit’s factories,” the Instagram caption reads. “Every president before Trump promised to stop it. None did. Now Michigan has a President who fights for workers and puts America FIRST.”
In a comment to HuffPost, the White House said Kahan’s music is “in the public Instagram library” and “anyone can use it.” The White House also directed HuffPost to a post on X from Kaelan Dorr, principal deputy communications director. Dorr wrote, “Symptoms of TDS apparently include having a northern attitude,” referring to the MAGA term Trump Derangement Syndrome and one of Kahan’s hits off of his album “Stick Season.”
Kahan, whose reps did not respond to a request for comment, is just the latest musician to fight back against the administration for using their song. Sabrina Carpenter, Kenny Loggins, the Rolling Stones, Linkin Park, Neil Young, Black Sabbath, Rihanna, Adele, and the estates of Prince and Tom Petty have all spoken out against the administration using their songs at rallies or on social media.
