Bayern Munich have ruled out a potential departure of Canadian men’s national team left-back Alphonso Davies this summer despite signing Nathaniel Brown from Eintracht Frankfurt. “I can rule out a move for Alphonso Davies,” Bayern Munich director Max Eberl said at the club’s training camp in Tegernsee. “ Konrad Laimer and Josip Stanišić have filled in at left-back. With Luis Díaz, Arijon Ibrahimović, Nene (Brown) and Davies, we’re well equipped on the left wing.”

Not only have Bayern Munich ruled out a potential departure by Davies, but it also appears that the Canadian men’s national team star could find himself in a new role this upcoming season. “We originally wanted to do something on the left side of the attack, but we’ve not done that,” Eberl said. Without a doubt the biggest football star in Canada, Davies featured only once for Canada at the World Cup, playing just 15 minutes in the round-of-32 win over South Africa at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles. Davies was unable to help his country at the World Cup, as Canada managed a historic run to the round of 16. As reported by Transfermarkt, the decision not to play further was coordinated among Bayern Munich, Canada Soccer, and Davies. But a big part of the story is also that Davies didn’t appear fit enough to help his country when he featured against South Africa. Furthermore, this upcoming season will be a big one for Davies. The Canadian star has signed a long-term agreement with the club, and even though Eberl has ruled out a transfer, Brown gives Davies a true competitor for the starting role on the left flank.
