An Anglesey sports club is hoping planners will grant permission for another padel court after “struggling to cope” with demand for the game. Rhosneigr Sports Club has made a full planning application to Anglesey Council to construct an open padel tennis court at its Station Road site.
The submission, made by Derek Browne, states that the sports club is a “very well used facility” and is popular with both the local community and tourists.
However, the club has seen an increased demand for the popular game, which is a racquet sport that combines elements of tennis and squash.

The club’s planning application reads: “The existing padel court was added in 2025, with grant aided funding from the Welsh Government and support from many areas including Rhun ap Iorwerth MS, Llinos Medi MP and Mon Actif, to name but a few.

“One of the objectives of the court and of course the whole club is to encourage people to be active and meet the five ways of well being.
“The padel court has been so successful, for young and old alike, that we are struggling to cope with demand.
“We have employed a coach for lessons for both padel and tennis and now need a second court to enable us to service the demand.
“We added a tarmac area, marked on the scale plan, under the mistaken advice that we didn’t need planning.
“It is this area where we now want to erect a padel court. We also are in the process of creating a biodiversity area on site together with Ysgol Rhosneigr.”
