Mariusz Wach compares Tyson Fury and Moses Itauma after fighting both: “Doesn’t make you a good fighter”
After facing Tyson Fury on Friday, Mariusz Wach became the second fighter to have faced both Moses Itauma and ‘The Gypsy King’. Now, the Polish veteran has compared how Itauma stacks up to the two-time world heavyweight champion.
Alongside Dillian Whyte, Wach is now just one of two common opponents between Itauma and Fury, having faced boxing’s hottest prospect back in 2024, when halted inside two rounds of what was Itauma’s 10th professional bout.
On Friday, 46-year-old Wach collided with Fury in a low-profile affair in Thailand and survived seven rounds before retiring in the corner – that loss marking an eighth defeat in his last 11 contests.
Speaking with Seconds Out, Wach was full of praise for Itauma, when quizzed on whether he could be the man to take over from the likes of Fury and dominate this next generation of the heavyweight division, believing that size alone no longer makes you a good fighter.
“Itauma is a fresher fighter, he is the new generation. Now that Usyk has vacated [his] belts, it is very likely that we will soon see Itauma in a championship fight.
“Now is the new generation of heavyweights, there is a different style. Like Usyk, you cannot just be a big heavyweight to make a good fighter.”
Itauma is set to take on Filip Hrgovic on Saturday, August 29, as he headlines in London for the first time in his career, looking to tee up a world title shot that could see him become the second-youngest heavyweight world champion of all time.
