Mini ‘Home Improvement’ reunion gives rare look at Jonathan Taylor Thomas

A few members of the “Home Improvement” gang got back together!

Patricia Richardson, who played Jill Taylor opposite Tim Allen on the hit sitcom, shared a photo with two of her onscreen sons, Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Taran Noah Smith.

“My other boys,” she wrote in the caption for the photo shared on Instagram.

Thomas played middle son Randy and Smith played the youngest son Mark for the series from 1991 to 1999.

Since the show ended, both boys have stepped away from the spotlight. Thomas has had a handful of acting credits since the show ended, with his last appearance on Allen’s other sitcom “Last Man Standing” in 2015. Smith appears to have stopped acting altogether.

Missing from the photo was not only Allen, but Richardson’s other onscreen son, played by Zachery Ty Bryan, is currently serving multiple prison sentences related to a DUI and probation violations and has had other legal troubles in the past.

Hopes for a proper “Home Improvement” reunion have mostly been quashed by both Richardson and Allen.

Allen recently told Us Weekly, “They keep talking about how it could move forward, but they get stuck [because] there are some personality problems right now with the boys. They’ve got their own issues. I always thought it would be cool if it was a story about them. That’s a little challenging right now, to put it mildly.”

Richardson also addressed the idea of a revival in 2024, noting the same problems.

“I mean, Zach is now a felon,” she said on the “Back to the Best” podcast. “Taran hasn’t acted since he left the show; he’s not an actor anymore. And Jonathan’s not really interested in acting. He wants to direct and write. And we don’t have [Taylor neighbor] Wilson [the late Earl Hindman].”
