OMAHA, Neb. (WOWT) – A woman is dead after a fiery crash on Interstate 80 in Omaha on Wednesday.
Shortly before 11 p.m., emergency crews rushed to the crash along I-80 near 102nd Street.
Responding police officers found a Kenworth semi-truck, a Chevrolet Equinox, and a Peterbilt semi-truck were involved in the crash.
“Omaha Fire Department medics took the driver of the Equinox, a 62-year-old woman, to CUMC-Bergan Mercy Hospital, where she later died,” a release sent Thursday states.
An initial investigation showed the Kenworth semi-truck was changing lanes when it hit the Equinox in the lane it was merging into.
Omaha Police say the driver of the Equinox then lost control and hit the concrete barrier before going back into the road. A second semi then hit the Equinox.
The Equinox caught fire following the crash, according to the release.
Police dispatch confirmed early Thursday that life-saving measures were underway as the woman was taken to the hospital.
The interstate reopened shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday. First Alert 6 captured the crash on a Nebraska DOT camera in the area.
The investigation is ongoing.
