Lucy Hadaway is relishing flying the England flag on the Commonwealth stage after banishing her Birmingham injury demons.
The York long jumper, 26, missed the Games four years ago with injury but made a successful start here in Glasgow, progressing to the final after finishing second in her qualification round.
Hadaway jumped a distance of 6.77m to finish behind English compatriot Jazmin Sawyers and book her place in tonight’s showpiece.
The City of York Athletics Club star is no stranger to the Commonwealth stage, having won a bronze medal at the youth equivalent in Nassau back in 2017.
And she is hoping to emulate those exploits as she bids to ‘jump big’ on a speedy Scotstoun track.
“I’m happy to be here, get the first jump sorted and to be able to come back for the final,” said Hadaway, one of 251 Team England athletes here supported by National Lottery funding.
“It’s nice to be here – I missed Birmingham through injury so to be here injury-free, touch wood, is great and I’m really looking forward to it.
“I love it [representing England] – I haven’t done it for a good few years due to various issues and illnesses, so it’s great to come back for my proper first year competing and to put the England vest on.
“I can jump big – it’s a fast track and I’m looking forward to the final.
