Yellowstone boss Taylor Sheridan takes rare acting role in new season of his hit thriller

Whilst the Taylor Sheridan TV universe continues to expand, you’d think that the busy creator and writer wouldn’t have time to pursue any other ventures – but it seems as though he’s finally stepping back into his acting boots.

The creator of Paramount+’s Lioness is now confirmed to be starring in the upcoming third season in a surprise role, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Sheridan’s upcoming Lioness role has been kept under wraps for now, but it has been reported that he’s set to share scenes with Thad Luckinbill, who plays CIA paramilitary officer Kyle McManus.

Speaking to THR, Luckinbill shared of Sheridan’s ability to balance it all: “He’s involved. I mean, he has a role, which is great. And the show’s better for it when he plays a role. He’s a great character, and he kills it. So, I love when he comes in and plays with us.”

Of course, Sheridan is no stranger to being in front of the camera, having first entered the industry as an actor, going on to star in Sons of Anarchy, Texas Ranger and Veronica Mars.

Since then, Sheridan has made a bigger name for himself behind-the-scenes as one of the leading figures in today’s TV landscape, creating shows like Yellowstone, Mayor of Kingstown, Landman, Tulsa King and The Madison.

His acting roles have been highly selective in this period, appearing only for Yellowstone (as Travis Wheatley), its prequel 1883 (as Charles Goodnight), and Lioness season 2 (as CIA operative Cody Spears).

These comments from Luckinbill suggest that Sheridan is reprising the role of Spears in his smash-hit spy thriller, which also stars Zoe Saldaña (Avatar: Fire and Ash) and Nicole Kidman (Margo’s Got Money Troubles).
