Vincent Pastore, known for portraying Salvatore Bonpensiero on “The Sopranos,” has died. He was 80.
The actor was found dead at his home in the Bronx, New York, where he is from, on Saturday, Aug. 1, his manager of over 30 years, Robert Attermann, confirmed to USA TODAY.
A neighbor of his had not heard from Pastore in three days, according to Deadline, and the circumstances surrounding his death are under investigation. He is survived by his daughter Renee.
“Vinny was one of the kindest, most generous people I have ever known. He treated everyone with warmth and respect, never turning down a fan who wanted a photograph or an autograph. He genuinely appreciated the people who supported him and always made them feel valued,” Attermann said in a statement.
Attermann said that Pastore loved being an actor as he was passionate about his craft while offering guidance and encouragement to young actors.
“For me, losing Vinny is deeply personal. Over more than three decades, I had the honor of watching not only his remarkable career but also the incredible person he was. I will miss his friendship, his loyalty, his humor, and his generosity,” he continued. “He leaves behind a legacy that extends far beyond his memorable performances. He will be greatly missed and never forgotten. May his memory be a blessing.”

On the Emmy-winning HBO crime series “The Sopranos”, Pastore played a key gangster in Tony Soprano’s (James Galdofini) inner circle who had a colorful nickname. “The Sopranos” was not his only time in the mobster genre, as he also briefly appeared in crime films including 1990’s “Goodfellas” and 1993’s “Carlito’s Way.”
Other films he appeared in include 1995’s “The Jerky Boys: The Movie”; 1997’s “The Deli”; 1998’s “Witness to the Mob”; 1999’s “Mickey Blue Eyes”; 2004’s “Shark Tale”; 2013’s “Once Upon a Time in Brooklyn”; and 2023’s “Spinning Gold,” as well as the 1996 HBO TV movie “Gotti.”
As a TV actor, he appeared in shows like “Law & Order,” “New York Undercover,” “Bull,” “General Hospital” and “Pair of Kings.” He also competed on reality competition shows such as “Dancing with the Stars” and “Celebrity Family Feud” and even appeared as a guest on a Season 2 episode of “Shark Tank.”
Pastore also hosted the SiriusXM radio show, “The Wise Guy,” which launched in 2004 and featured talent and prominent figures from the Italian-American community.
Before becoming a successful actor, he enlisted as a sailor for three years during the Vietnam War.
