Two years after he was traded by the Miami Marlins to the New York Mets at the 2024 MLB trade deadline, Huascar Brazobán is a reliever in demand again.
This time, the Mets are the sellers.

Coincidentally, the Mets are playing the Marlins on Aug. 2. In the middle of the game, SNY cameras spotted Brazobán hugging teammates and coaches — often a sign that a player is the subject of a trade soon to come to fruition.
Brazobán, 36, is 5-2 with a 2.61 ERA in 36 games out of the Mets’ bullpen this season. The right-hander boasts a 96.8 mph fastball, making him an easy addition to any contending team’s bullpen.
In four seasons (2022-26) with the Mets and Marlins, Brazobán is 17-10 with a 3.50 ERA. He’s been among the more reliable relievers in the game the last three years. From 2023-25, Brazobán averaged 47 appearances per season with a 3.84 ERA, 1.30 WHIP and one strikeout per inning.

The Mets have already been busy.
They traded left-handed reliever A.J. Minter to the Minnesota Twins earlier in the week. Freddy Peralta is on the move too, with multiple outlets reporting he will be joining the Tampa Bay Rays once the four-player deal is official.
New York is 47-65, fifth place in the National League East.

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reported the Pirates expressed some interest in trading for Brazobán. It’s unclear whether the Pirates’ interest waned after they acquired Camilo Dovál, a former All-Star closer, from the New York Yankees on Aug. 1.
The cost to acquire Brazoban might be higher than most.
Brazobán is not a mere rental. Despite his age, he is not eligible for free agency until after the 2029 season. He’ll make $1.05 million this season, his first year of arbitration eligibility.
