Town defender to join Championship side on permanent deal

The right-back will head to the Potters for a £3.5m package, which includes add-ons.

Clarke, who was born in Ipswich, spent time at the Bet365 Stadium on loan from Arsenal in 2022/23. He subsequently made a permanent move to Portman Road, making 67 appearances for the Blues in all competitions.

Bristol City had been the favourites to sign the 25-year-old throughout the summer. However, we revealed on Saturday that Stoke had made the move to rival the Robins, and they have since managed to swoop in and secure his services.

Clarke won’t be the only imminent departure. We understand that striker Ali Al-Hamadi is set for another loan spell, having agreed to spend the 2026/27 campaign at Polish Ekstraklasa side Rakow Czestochowa.

The Iraq international, who featured at the 2026 World Cup, spent last season on loan at Luton Town, but made just 13 League One appearances for the Hatters.

The Blues are also expecting to announce the signing of midfielder Florentino Luis from Burnley this week, having agreed a £16m deal with the Clarets. The 26-year-old completed his medical today ahead of the switch.
