Anthony Davis appeared to dispute a former Los Angeles Lakers coach’s explanation for why he and LeBron James rarely worked out together during their time as teammates.
Former Lakers assistant Lionel Hollins claimed that the two stars generally trained at different times because James preferred to begin his workouts earlier in the day.
“LeBron told him, ‘You’ve got to get up a little earlier to come work out with me,'” Hollins said on SiriusXM NBA Radio.
Davis responded to the statement on social media with a cap emoji, commonly used to suggest that a claim is false or misleading.
Davis pushes back on Hollins’ claim
Davis did not provide a detailed response, but his reaction made it clear that he disagreed with Hollins’ version of events.
Hollins was part of the Lakers’ coaching staff during the 2019-20 campaign, when James and Davis led Los Angeles to the NBA championship inside the Orlando bubble.
The two superstars formed one of the league’s most successful partnerships after Davis arrived from the New Orleans Pelicans in 2019.
Despite Hollins’ comments about their different workout schedules, James and Davis regularly spoke highly of their relationship and chemistry throughout their years together in Los Angeles.
James and Davis played together for more than five seasons, reaching the playoffs multiple times and winning the 2020 championship.
Davis delivered a dominant postseason run during the title campaign, while James earned NBA Finals MVP honors after Los Angeles defeated the Miami Heat in six games.
Their partnership eventually ended when the Lakers traded Davis to the Dallas Mavericks as part of the blockbuster deal that brought Luka Doncic to Los Angeles.
