Getting there: Avellanosa de Muñó is around 30 minutes’ drive from Burgos and just over than two hours from Madrid.
Where to stay: There is no tourist accommodation in Avellanosa de Muñó and hotels in nearby Lerma have been fully booked for some time. There is still availability in Burgos, or in Madrid from where a day trip is possible, but expect heavy traffic after the eclipse.
When to watch: In Avellanosa, the eclipse begins at around 19:33, with totality shortly after 20:29 and lasting just under two minutes.
Don’t leave after sunset: The Perseid meteor shower will also be active that night. With little moonlight expected around its peak, Avellanosa’s dark rural skies could make it an excellent place to watch, provided skies are clear and you move away from local lights.
