Following the news that the casting for the new James Bond was in its final stage, with director Denis Villeneuve and producers Amy Pascal and David Heyman having reportedly notified actors for the final round of August auditions, Pascal has revealed that we will soon get to know the identity of the next 007.

During an interview for Spider-Man: Brand New Day, which she also produced, Pascal told Deadline that “the end of the year is a good bet” when it comes to the timing of the announcement.

“I would say the end of the year is a good bet,” said Pascal. “We are being really, really methodical. Having worked with Barbara Broccoli at the studio, I mean, Daniel Craig is a hard act to follow. And it’s got to be something really different that is stirring and exciting and different.”

The rumour mill has been working overtime ever since Daniel Craig drank his last vodka martini in 2021’s No Time To Die, which concluded his 15-year run as Bond.

Since the last Bond movie, the 007 franchise was sold to Amazon MGM Studios, who took creative control from long-serving producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson.

Names such as Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Callum Turner, Jacob Elordi, Jack Lowden, Louis Patridge and Tom Francis have been circulating as potential candidates for the role of Bond, but until an announcement is made, nothing is certain. The audition process is ongoing and traditionally, once a name is out there, the chances are it’ll be another actor who gets the role.

The odds are that Amazon will bank on a relatively unknown actor in his late 20s rather than someone who is already in demand. Time will tell, and not long to find out…

Bond 26 will be directed by Denis Villeneuve and is being written by Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight. Production is expected to kick off in 2027, with a release planned for 2028.
