As wildfire smoke pushes Portland’s air quality further and further into the unhealthy zone, outdoor summer activities are shutting down.
Portland had the 10th-worst air quality of any city on Earth on Tuesday morning, according to air quality monitoring company IQAir.
The hot, smoky conditions are only expected to get worse as the week continues.
By Tuesday, several organizations were already canceling activities.
Camps
Outdoor day and overnight camps were an early casualty of the smoky weather.
Skyhawks sports camps in Portland were canceled Tuesday.
Overnight Camp Namanu near Sandy canceled the remainder of its session.
Concerts
No outdoor concerts in the Portland metropolitan area have been canceled so far.
Ani DiFranco’s Tuesday evening PDXLIVE concert at Pioneer Courthouse Square was not canceled as of 2:15 p.m.
Outdoor concerts at Edgefield and Topaz Farm remained scheduled for the upcoming week.
Other events
Portland Parks and Recreation served lunches at the regular meal time for the Free Lunch + Play program on Tuesday, but games and activities were canceled. Fitness in the Park classes were canceled for Tuesday as well.
National Night Out events scheduled at Ed Benedict Park at S.E. 100th Avenue and Powell Boulevard and Hamilton Park at 4300 S.W. 47th Dr. were canceled Tuesday.
