The M2 is partially shut due to a police incident, and alternative routes are heavily congested.
The motorway is closed coastbound between Junction 2 for Rochester and Junction 3 for Blue Bell Hill.

The road was closed initially in both directions. Subsequently, traffic on the London-bound carriageway has been released.
Traffic is being diverted off the motorway at Junction 1 and directed through the Medway Towns – causing long delays in the surrounding areas.
KCC Highways said: “Trapped traffic between M2 J1 and J2 is currently being diverted off the motorway at the J2 coast-bound exit slip to use the A228.
“Road users approaching M2 J1 will be diverted via A289 Eastbound, Medway Tunnel, Pier Road, Yokosuku Way, Ito Way, A2 Eastbound, A278 Southbound to rejoin M2 at J4.”
Kent Police said: “We are attending a call regarding concerns for the welfare of a person near the M2 at Strood.

“Patrols were called to the incident at 2.20pm today, and officers remain at the scene.
“Other roads in the area have been affected by congestion, and motorists are advised to consider alternative routes.”

There is a four-mile queue of traffic.
A spokesperson for the fire service confirmed crews were called to assist police and paramedics.
