PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) — A Maine man has been charged with murder in connection with the death of a 21-year-old in Portland.
Police have charged 58-year-old Glen Rodney of Portland with murder in connection with death of 21-year-old Julian Nadeau of Portland.
Police say they responded to the southbound side of I-295 near Exit 8 and the walking path adjacent to Tukey’s Bridge for a report of an injured person around 9:45 p.m. on Wednesday.
When officers arrived, they say they found Nadeau lying in the breakdown lane of I-295 adjacent to the walking path. Nadeau was taken to Maine Medical Center, where they died.
According to police, Nadeau had been walking along the path with friends, when they were approached by a man riding a bicycle. A fight then occurred with Rodney, who left the scene on a bicycle.
Witnesses provided officers with a description of the suspect. Shortly after, police say officers found the suspect on Presumpscot Street and took him into custody without incident.
Police have not released how Nadeau was killed. Police say no additional details about the circumstances surrounding the incident will be released at this time.
Rodney is being held at the Cumberland County Jail.
He has a criminal record dating back to 2009 when he was found guilty of assault and paid a $750 fine. He was also charged with domestic violent assault in 2015. That charge was dismissed after he pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of disorderly conduct. He paid a $600 fine.
The investigation is ongoing.
