‘Bonus clauses’ in Arsenal’s deal with Newcastle for Bruno Guimaraes club ‘don’t want public’
Arsenal and Newcastle United have agreed a £75million deal for Bruno Guimaraes, but it is now claimed that the transfer includes ‘many bonuses’ and ‘more money’

Arsenal have reportedly included bonuses in their deal with Newcastle United for Bruno Guimaraes.
football.london understands that the agreement is for a fee of £75million, but reports in Brazil claim that more money is involved, on top of what they state is an £80million deal. It is said that Newcastle do not plan to make these apparent bonuses public, which are described as among the many details involved.
Arsenal also appear to have made Guimaraes’ preferred number 39 squad number available this week for the midfielder to assume. Louie Copley has become their new number 38, per the club’s website.

ESPN Brazil journalist Bruno Andrade cites people who took part in the negotiations and claims to have spoken with them when discussing these alleged bonuses. Arsenal’s first official offer included add-ons before proposing a guaranteed fee in the region of £75million, without any, which led Newcastle to compromise.
The North East club initially appeared set to demand £100million, as Tottenham Hotspur paid for Sandro Tonali. Arsenal, however, started their verbal negotiations at north of £45million.
The price of their proposals then rose above £60million. However, it became clear that they would have to pay over £70million, but less than £80million.

Newcastle chief executive David Hopkinson has spoken about their negotiations during the Magpies’ pre-season tour in Spain. The former Real Madrid global head of partnerships has acknowledged Guimaraes’ impending departure before any official announcements from either club.
Hopkinson said in La Manga: “It was not the fee that I think Arsenal had hoped to pay, and, of course, we would have liked an even higher number, but I think you’re dealing with sophisticated actors on both sides, and that’s what negotiation looks like.”
Lyon are owed around £7million because of their sell-on clause. Hopkinson, however, says: “It’s a fee that satisfies us.

“If you want to put a merchandising spin on it, it’s the highest fee for a player in that position at that age. Is that a good deal for Newcastle United?
“I believe it is, but Arsenal are getting a very special player and special person, so this works from a financial perspective for both sides.”
By contrast, Mikel Arteta has refused to speak about Guimaraes. He said: “I’m not going to talk about any players who aren’t Arsenal players. I can tell you at the moment that something happens and we can announce it. I will give you my straight answer.”
