Jacksonville Jaguars score vs Chiefs, with Monday Night Football live updates

Jacksonville Jaguars keys to victory vs. Chiefs: How Jags can win
The Florida Times-Union shares the team’s three keys to victory ahead of their matchup against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football.
(This story has been updated to add new information and to add a photo or video.)
The Jacksonville Jaguars are on Monday Night Football. This time, they’re 3-1. Three-time Super Bowl champion Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs (and maybe Taylor Swift?) are coming to town. All of that adds up to a huge night at EverBank Stadium. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m.
The Jaguars are coming in on a two-game winning streak after forcing four takeaways in a victory over formerly unbeaten San Francisco. Through four games, the Jags lead the NFL in turnover differential at plus-9.
Kansas City is bouncing back nicely from an 0-2 start with wins over the Giants and the Ravens. Mahomes passed for 270 yards and four touchdowns in last week’s 37-20 victory over Baltimore, announcing to the NFL that the Chiefs are far from finished. The series has been all Kansas City for the last 15 years. They’ve won the last eight meetings. Can the Jaguars change that for their first victory over the Chiefs since 2009?

Jacksonville, do you believe in miracles? Okay, it wasn’t quite that, but the team’s win on Monday night changes everything.
Trevor Lawrence dropped back with about a minute to go, looked down the right sideline, and launched a perfect pass to Brian Thomas Jr.
The Pro Bowl wideout returned to form, making the snag for a 33-yard gain, the catalyst for the Jacksonville Jaguars‘ (4-1) go-ahead touchdown with 23 seconds left to snatch victory from the Kansas City Chiefs, 31-28. See the quick takeaways from the win. –-Demetrius Harvey
Four questions and answers about the Jaguars from their 31-28 win Monday night over the Kansas City Chiefs.
What was the key play on the Jaguars’ first-half touchdown drive, which cut the Chiefs’ lead to 14-7 with 2:38 left in the first half? Answer: The key play was a gift. Here’s why. –Ryan O’Halloran
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s 1-yard touchdown run to take the lead late over the Kansas City Chiefs on “Monday Night Football” was far from your regular run. Here’s why. –-Kirkland Crawford
The Jaguars have knocked off the Chiefs on Monday Night Football and move to 4-1, tied for the best record in the NFL through five weeks. It’s their first win against Kansas City since 2009. –Clayton Freeman
What a drive. Despite a sack, an interception (waved off by penalty) and a stumble at the 1-yard line, Trevor Lawrence is in the end zone and the Jaguars are on top. Harrison Butker’s out-of-bounds kickoff gave the Jags prime field position, Lawrence and Brian Thomas Jr. combined on a highlight down the sideline and, after pass interference, Lawrence got stepped on by a lineman but got up to dive for the end zone from 1 yard out. A stunning play.
Jaguars 31, Chiefs 28, 0:23 4th. –Clayton Freeman
Patrick Mahomes has led the Chiefs back. A great catch along the sideline by Hollywood Brown to stay in bounds, and then two plays later, Kareem Hunt scored from 2 yards. Trevor Lawrence will have 105 seconds and two timeouts to work with, needing a Jaguars TD.
Chiefs 28, Jaguars 24, 1:45 4th. –-Clayton Freeman
Patrick Mahomes has directed a drive of more than six minutes, and counting. The Chiefs are well within range for a Harrison Butker field goal, which could force overtime. But Kansas City is setting its sights on the end zone. Jaguars 24, Chiefs 21, 2:00 4th. –Clayton Freeman
Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver/cornerback Travis Hunter came out of Monday night’s game against Kansas City with a lower-body injury after staying with Xavier Worthy step-for-step on a deep ball thrown by Patrick Mahomes. Here’s what happened next. –-Garry Smits
The Jaguars respond from that setback. A third-and-long completion to Travis Hunter, newly back from a brief injury stoppage, set up Cam Little for a 52-yard field goal inside the right upright. They’re closing in on their first win over Kansas City for more than a decade.

Birthday touchdowns aren’t unheard of in the NFL — it’s happened more than 170 times since 1970. But Trevor Lawrence was responsible for two touchdowns on his birthday for the second year in a row. –-Tom Szaroleta
Jacksonville Jaguars linebacker Devin Lloyd’s 2025 campaign just keeps getting better and better.
Lloyd, named the AFC Defensive Player of the Month for September, had a 99-yard interception return to give the Jaguars the lead against the Kansas City Chiefs on Monday Night Football. –-Juston Lewis
The Chiefs made the takeaway — and the officials’ no-call of pass interference — pay off. Travis Kelce caught a Patrick Mahomes pass to the 5 and Kareem Hunt followed with a 5-yard rushing score.
Chiefs 21, Jaguars 21, 12:20 4th. –Clayton Freeman
A disastrous moment for the Jags. Trevor Lawrence, facing pressure from Chiefs defensive end George Karlaftis, threw a hurried pass that a diving Trent McDuffie intercepted for Kansas City. The Chiefs will take over inside the Jacksonville red zone. Lawrence appealed for pass interference, and ESPN commentators agreed, but officials on the field made no call. Jaguars 21, Chiefs 14, 13:03 4th. –Clayton Freeman
This game has turned around in a hurry, and Devin Lloyd’s touchdown return will be viewed for a long, long time to come. —Clayton Freeman
The Defensive Player of the Month does it again. Patrick Mahomes takes the Chiefs to the Jaguars 3, but Devin Lloyd puts a stop to Kansas City, picking off Mahomes over the middle and taking the pass back 99 yards to the house. It surpasses Aaron Beasley for the longest pick-six ever for Jacksonville. An all-time Jaguars highlight for Monday Night Football, and their first lead tonight.
Jaguars 21, Chiefs 14, 2:19 3rd. –-Clayton Freeman
The Jacksonville Jaguars got through the first half of their game on Oct. 6 against Kansas City unscathed by injury.
Not so much the second half, and it was a big one.
Tight end Brenton Strange injured his hip and was questionable to return, according to the Jaguars. Strange caught one pass for 22 yards in the first quarter and entered the game leading the Jaguars with 19 receptions, and was second to Brian Thomas Jr., in yards with 164. –-Garry Smits
They’re coming back, and now it’s tied up. Trevor Lawrence, who has been taking off on foot to escape pressure all night, scrambled through traffic and into the end zone from 10 yards. The highlight leading up to it was Travis Hunter’s signature play today, an acrobatic flying 44-yard reception, holding on to a Lawrence pass despite a hard landing.
Jaguars 14, Chiefs 14, 8:40 3rd. –Clayton Freeman
The Jaguars are behind at the break on Monday Night Football, but they’re still in the contest despite a flurry of missed tackles and a goal-line turnover. –Clayton Freeman
The Jacksonville Jaguars defense wasn’t happy after the Kansas City Chiefs scored the first touchdown of Monday Night Football in the first quarter on Oct. 6. Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce ended up in the end zone, with a little help not only from quarterback Patrick Mahomes but also from receiver JuJu Smith-Schuster. Here’s a closer look at the call. –-Clayton Freeman
The Jags needed that. It hasn’t been a perfect night from Trevor Lawrence at all, but he finished a 13-play, eight-minute march nicely with a 3-yard pass to Parker Washington. The Jaguars survived a near-interception that ricocheted off multiple Chiefs, and benefited from a third-down DPI call. They’re also getting some effective runs by Travis Etienne.
Chiefs 14, Jaguars 7, 2:38 2nd. –-Clayton Freeman
Tackling, tackling, tackling. The Jaguars aren’t doing it well, and Patrick Mahomes is in control, leading a 97-yard march down the field and capping it with a 9-yard scramble for the score. A Kareem Hunt run and a 34-yard connection from Mahomes to Tyquan Thornton highlighted the march. That’s 234 yards already for Kansas City.
Chiefs 14, Jaguars 0, 10:44 2nd. –-Clayton Freeman
Inches away. Trevor Lawrence went for the QB sneak on fourth and goal from the inch line, and reached over the pile — only for Kansas City’s Nick Bolton to slap the ball away. After review, officials ruled that Lawrence, who had been narrowly denied at the sideline on the previous play, lost possession before breaking the plane. It’s Kansas City football, and a great Jaguars TD chance evaporates. Chiefs 7, Jaguars 0, 13:36 2nd. –Clayton Freeman
One quarter in the books. But the Jaguars are driving inside the red zone after a Trevor Lawrence pass to Brian Thomas Jr. –-Clayton Freeman
The Jaguars aren’t happy about that one. At the end of a long drive that included a Tyquan Thornton catch on a high floating pass, Patrick Mahomes found Travis Kelce with a 2-yard TD pass. Just one issue: The Jags appealed for offensive pass interference on what they considered an illegal pick by JuJu Smith-Schuster. Officials threw the flag, then picked it up. The TD stands.

Monday Night Football has begun. Follow for updates tonight. –-Clayton Freeman
A year ago through four games, the Jacksonville Jaguars were the NFL’s only winless team and already headed toward sweeping changes by ownership.
Now? Through the first four games, the Jaguars are 3-1, and are tied with Indianapolis for the AFC South lead. They have one of the league’s best running games and they do have the league’s best takeaway unit.
Plenty of things are working … but plenty of things need work. –Ryan O’Halloran
The entrance’s label says, “LOCKER ROOM,” but in reality, it is Jaguars defensive end Josh Hines-Allen’s office.
He knows just about everybody and will visit with just about anybody, like a conscious CEO who makes the rounds.
This was the scene after practice last Thursday: Hines-Allen’s two-cubicle setup is next to the equipment room entrance, a high-traffic area of teammates and support personnel. Directly across from him is the offensive line. Down the row are his fellow defensive linemen. And on the other side of the room, the linebackers. –Ryan O’Halloran
Primetime national TV. A visit by the team described as the current “kings of Monday Night Football,” plus a question raised by the push alerts popping up on my phone: Will Taylor Swift attend?
Spoiler alert: Taylor likely will not attend the Jaguars-Chiefs game. But this still is a big deal for Jacksonville. It’s Monday Night Football.
Started in 1970, it’s the longest-running sports series on American TV. Only “60 Minutes” and the daytime soap operas have had longer streaks. And with all due credit to decades of “General Hospital,” MNF just might be the ultimate American soap opera, with more than its share of drama, and with a long list of characters to love and hate, from Howard Cosell to Joe Buck, Joe Namath to Patrick Mahomes. –-Mark Woods
Singing the National Anthem in public comes with a lot of pressure. Some of the notes are notoriously difficult to hit, and everyone in the place is standing at attention, listening to every word.
Add 70,000 or so fans at a nationally televised NFL game, and the pressure just grows.
Not CitiLimitz. The Chattanooga trio of brothers, who will sing the anthem a cappella before Monday night’s Jaguars-Chiefs matchup, say they’re looking forward to it. –-Tom Szaroleta
Despite a few early losses this season by Kansas City, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence still thinks the Chiefs are the team to beat in the AFC.
Lawrence is winless against the Chiefs, going 0-3 so far in his career against Kansas City, including one loss in the postseason. He’ll have the opportunity to pick up his first win against them on Monday Night Football as the Jaguars host Patrick Mahomes and the former Super Bowl champions in prime time. –Juston Lewis
Jacksonville Jaguars head coach Liam Coen stood in front of a somber locker room.
The Jaguars had fallen to 1-1 after losing to the Cincinnati Bengals in a game they trailed for only 18 seconds. Unfortunately, it was the final 18 seconds of the game. A dropped pass from receiver Brian Thomas Jr. and a defensive pass interference penalty on rookie two-way player Travis Hunter sunk the team as they tried to stave off a Joe Burrow-less Bengals team.
It was more of the same from previous regimes where the Jaguars couldn’t close out games. But the messaging post-game was very different from how previous coaches handled losses. –-Juston Lewis
The Kansas City Chiefs visit the Jacksonville Jaguars for a Monday Night Football game on Oct. 6 at 8:15 p.m. at EverBank Stadium.
The Jaguars haven’t defeated the Chiefs since early in Barack Obama’s first term as President. It was Nov. 8, 2009, to be exact. Some might say they’re due. Others might say they’re doomed. Let’s hear what our experts have to say on the subject. –-Tim Walters
If you’re tuning in to Monday Night Football and hear tens of thousands of voices stretch a long, booming “Duuuuval!” during the broadcast, you’re hearing the heartbeat of Jacksonville. It’s not a taunt or a boo — it’s a rallying cry, a proud salute to Duval County, the home of the Jaguars and their fiercely loyal fans.
For Jacksonville, “Duuuval” is more than just a chant. It’s the heartbeat of Jaguars Nation. –-Doris Alvarez Cea
In theory, you could wear swim trunks or a bikini to any NFL stadium. Jacksonville, though, has the only stadium in the league where you could actually put that swimwear to use.
But let’s be clear on one thing. Those aren’t swimming pools overlooking the north end zone at Jacksonville’s EverBank Stadium; the Jaguars call them “spas.” And if you don’t have a special ticket, you won’t be able to use them. –-Tom Szaroleta
The Jacksonville Jaguars (3-1) will be without one of their best defenders Monday night against the Kansas City Chiefs (2-2).
Ahead of kickoff, the Jaguars announced that defensive end Travon Walker will be deemed inactive tonight alongside the other Jax players who won’t suit up tonight. –-Demetrius Harvey
The Jaguars lead the league in takeaways this season, logging 13 through their first four games. They average about three per game and had a season-high four against the 49ers. The Jaguars are also ranked No. 5 in the league in points allowed per game, averaging 18 per contest so far.
Here are three bold predictions for Monday night’s game. –Juston Lewis
Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence is celebrating his 26th birthday today, and his wife Marissa marked the occasion with a sweet Instagram Story (see post here). She shared an adorable photo of Trevor snuggling their infant daughter, Shae Lynn, calling it a day of “game day snuggles and birthday snuggles.” Her heartfelt message continued: “We love you so much!! Happy Birthday.”
The birthday celebrations come just hours before the Jaguars face off against the Kansas City Chiefs — whose star tight end, Travis Kelce, also celebrated his birthday this week. –-Doris Alvarez Cea
Trevor Lawrence vs. Patrick Mahomes. The 3-1 Jacksonville Jaguars vs. the 2-2 Kansas City Chiefs. Monday Night Football’s return to the First Coast. For NFL fans, the countdown is on for Oct. 6 at EverBank Stadium.
But for countless music fans on the First Coast and beyond, there’s a different question occupying their minds.
Is singer Taylor Swift, engaged since August to Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce, coming to Jacksonville for the Week 5 football matchup in the national MNF spotlight? Here’s what we know. –-Clayton Freeman
It should be a playoff atmosphere for the Jacksonville Jaguars on Monday night when they host the Kansas City Chiefs at EverBank Stadium.
A sellout is expected as the Jags (3-1) face the Chiefs (2-2) for the sixth time in the last seven years, and for the third time at home.
Given the changes in parking lots and entry to the stadium due to ongoing construction on the Stadium of the Future, as well as increased traffic, the Jaguars are advising fans to arrive early and exercise patience. –-Garry Smits
