Is style twinning with your mum or daughter really a good idea?

And it’s not just A-list offspring who like to twin with mum. In fact, there are plenty of ordinary folk who like to imitate their mothers, or vice versa. Thirty-eight-year-old writer Luciana Bellini often borrows from her stylish 71–year-old mother, and the duo have even been known to double up on items they especially love.

“Most recently she gave me her old Louis Vuitton bag because she doesn’t get enough use out of it, so that was a nice one,” she shares. “She also bought the same coat I have after she came to stay with me last year and loved borrowing mine. We’d definitely share clothes more if we didn’t live so far apart.”

Journalist Rosalyn Wikeley recently wrote a feature for The Telegraph about how similar hers and her mum’s style is. “I love the wardrobe overlap with my mother, and how the same jumper or coat articulates itself on a different body and generation,” she explains. “And with the ebb and flow of fashion, I’m looking at her 1980s cocktail dresses through a new set of lenses for the festive party season, and the leather trousers and cashmere oversized jumper appears to have done full circle.”
