Yankees legend Derek Jeter was interrupted by important phone call on Fox

When Yankees legend Derek Jeter was a player, he was known as the ultimate bachelor. Since retiring from the game in 2014, he’s transitioned into an outstanding family man.
While on the Fox Sports set during the rain delay of Game 3 between the Seattle Mariners and Detroit Tigers, Jeter’s phone went off live on the air. It turns out that the father of four was missing an important meeting at one of his kids’ schools.
“Sorry, it’s a rain delay,” Jeter said, via X/Twitter. “I had an appointment, a parent-teacher conference that I’m going to miss.”
“Take it,” Jeter’s Fox Sports co-panelist David Ortiz said, somewhat seriously. “Take the call, man. Kid’s first.”
Like a true professional, Jeter pushed on and continued his duties as an analyst.
The lighthearted moment showed a different side of the famously composed Yankee captain — one who now juggles his on-air responsibilities with life as a devoted dad. It was also a reminder of how far Jeter has come since his days as a New York tabloid fixture, when his off-field life was a constant topic of conversation.
After an illustrious 20-year MLB career, all with the Yankees, Jeter left the game in 2014. In 2017, he began his time as CEO and part-owner of the Miami Marlins, where he remained until 2022.
Since then, he’s been working as an analyst on Fox Sports, appearing during MLB’s jewel events, including the All-Star Game and the postseason.
Jeter has built a great rapport with co-panelists Ortiz and his former teammate, Alex Rodriguez, forming a chemistry that blends insight, humor, and plenty of friendly banter — even when life, or a rain delay, gets in the way.
