NYPD sergeant shot in the Bronx, rushed to the hospital; person of interest in custody, police say

WILLIAMSBRIDGE, The Bronx (WABC) — An NYPD officer was rushed to hospital after being shot in the Bronx on Thursday, according to officials.

Police say an NYPD sergeant from the 49th Precinct was shot at 1015 E. Gun Hill Rd. in the Williamsbridge section shortly after 10:20 p.m.

Law enforcement sources told Eyewitness News that the sergeant was responding to a robbery. They say a suspect fired from a window, grazing the sergeant in the head.

The sergeant was taken to Jacobi Hospital, and is alert and conscious, according to law enforcement sources.

A person of interest has been taken into custody.

The investigation is ongoing.
