The National Weather Service has issued a coastal flood advisory for Alexandria’s shoreline from midnight Saturday into early Monday morning.
Up to one foot of water above ground level is expected in low-lying areas due to tidal flooding, according to the advisory issued at 5:17 a.m. Saturday.
Water is expected to approach the curb near the intersection of King and Strand streets in Alexandria, the weather service said. The advisory also covers shoreline areas in Arlington County.
The flooding is forecast from midnight Saturday to 4 a.m. Monday, especially around high tide. Tides are expected to run 2 to 2.5 feet above normal.
High tide at Alexandria is at 12:11 p.m. Saturday and 12:25 a.m. Sunday.
The weather service advised residents to allow extra time for travel as some roads may be closed. Motorists should not drive around barricades or through water of unknown depth.
