UAB starting quarterback Jalen Kitna to miss game vs. No. 22 Memphis

UAB quarterback Jalen Kitna is set to miss today’s game against Memphis due to an upper-body injury, AL.com has learned. With Kitna out, the Blazers are set to give Ryder Burton his first career start in Kitna’s absence.

Through six starts this season, Kitna has completed 69.1% of his passes for 1,776 yards and 10 touchdowns with four interceptions. He ranks second nationally, averaging 26.83 completions and ninth nationally with 296 passing yards per game. Kitna was sacked five times during last week’s 55-33 loss at Florida State.

Burton, a redshirt sophomore, joined UAB from West Virginia this offseason. The Springville, Utah native did not make an appearance during his lone season with the Mountaineers. He also failed to see the field during his freshman season at BYU in 2023.
