Five Ohio State players named Midseason All-Americans: Buckeye Breakfast

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Exactly midway through October means it’s exactly midway through the college football regular season, and No. 1 Ohio State is well represented on some midseason watch lists.

Five players — receiver Jeremiah Smith, linebackers Sonny Styles and Arvell Reese, defensive lineman Caden Curry and safety Caleb Downs — were named midseason All-Americans.

Smith was named to the Sporting News team, as was Curry, Reese and Downs. Both Reese and Downs were named to the CBS team.

Styles was named to the Second Team by Sports Illustrated.

Through six games, Smith has 40 catches and 505 yards with seven touchdowns. All three figures lead the Buckeyes, as he’s well on his way to becoming one of the most statistically impressive receivers in Ohio State history.

Reese has 38 tackles but 4.5 sacks as well, as he’s quickly played himself into a player that could go in the first-round of the 2026 NFL Draft.

Curry is third on the team in tackles (31) but leads the team with six sacks — the majority of which came against Washington.

Downs is fourth on the team in tackles with 28. He’s got an interception as well.

Ohio State in contact with Penn State commit

Four-star 2026 running back Messiah Mickens remains committed to Penn State, but is now keeping his options open in his recruitment. The news came after the Nittany Lions fired James Franklin earlier in the week.

Ohio State, Missouri, South Carolina, Georgia, Miami, Rutgers and Syracuse are in the mix for him, per a report from On3. He’s reportedly discussing official visits with each of those schools.

The Buckeyes are in the mix with four-star Amari Latimer but seem to be keeping options open for another running back in the class besides him.

Mickens attends Harrisburg High School in Pennsylvania, and has been committed to Penn State for more than two years. He’s the No. 160 overall prospect and No. 13 running back in the 247Sports composite rankings.
