A new chapter in Oregon State football starts today as the Beavers host Lafayette at Reser Stadium in Corvallis.

The Beavers have a new interim head coach in Robb Akey following the firing of Trent Bray. Akey, a seasoned assistant with over 35 years of coaching experience, is in his third role with the Beavers just this season.

Akey started the 2025 season as Oregon State’s special assistant to the head coach before moving to special teams coordinator on Oct. 5 following the release of Jamie Christian. Less than two weeks later, Akey was introduced as interim head coach with Bray’s departure on Oct. 12.

“Obviously, there’s a hell of a chain of events taking place right now,” Akey said. “It’s tough for everybody … what matters most is the players and we’ve got to make sure they’re taken care of.”

Akey said he plans on prioritizing the players and their ability to return to having fun playing football.

“My goal, our goal, is to see them be able to smile coming off the field again,” Akey said. “And be able to achieve what they came here to achieve and accomplish some things and feel good about what they’ve done.”
