In Great Britain, they have a common expression: “Taking the piss.’’
When the Brits are “taking the piss’’ with someone, they’re having a bit of sport with them, mocking, teasing or making fun.
In America, of course, that expression has an entirely different connotation.
On Tuesday, at the NFL’s fall meetings in Manhattan, Jets owner Woody Johnson metaphorically leaked all over Justin Fields, the quarterback he signed to a two-year, $40 million contract in the offseason, with $30 million guaranteed.
