Nets’ Danny Wolf (ankle) out vs. Hornets; Ben Saraf starts at PG

Brooklyn Nets forward Danny Wolf is heading into his rookie season in the NBA after being taken with the 26th overall pick in the 2025 NBA Draft out of Michigan. Brooklyn is hoping to see all of the five rookies from the draft, including Wolf, take the floor and show what they do, but they will have to wait at least one game to see Wolf in the regular season.
The Nets announced prior to Wednesday’s season-opener at the Charlotte Hornets that Wolf would miss the contest due to a left ankle sprain. Brooklyn had Wolf listed as questionable earlier in the day due to the left ankle sprain, but didn’t list him as out until about two hours before Wednesday’s tip-off, meaning that his condition worsened over the course of the day.
Wolf, 21, is coming off a 2024-25 season at Michigan in which he averaged 13.2 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game while shooting 49.7% from the field and 33.6% from three-point range. Wolf was able to parlay his third and final college season into being a first-round pick, but he also had some growing pains when he played in the Las Vegas Summer League in July.
Wolf was solid in his three games in Las Vegas as he averaged 10.0 points, 7.3 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 1.0 steals per game on .391/.400/.667 shooting splits. With Wolf out of the lineup, players like Noah Clowney and Jalen Wilson should see more playing at the power forward spot against a Hornets frontcourt of Kon Knueppel, Miles Bridges, and Moussa Diabate.
The Nets announced prior to tip-off that Ben Saraf will be the starting point guard in Wednesday’s game at the Hornets, which could either provide clarity or confusion with where the point guard spot is at as of this writing. Egor Demin, the eighth overall pick, is available for Wednesday’s game in Charlotte, but with the team being cautious with his minutes, it’s possible that’s the reason that he isn’t starting.
