‘Percy Jackson’ Season 2 Arrives With A Surprising Rotten Tomatoes Score

Percy Jackson and the Olympians is finally returning for season 2, two full years after season 1 aired in December 2023. It’s out tomorrow, December 10, and critics are loving the season, at least according to Rotten Tomatoes.
As it stands, Percy Jackson and the Olympians season 2 has a perfect 100% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes. That puts it above the 91% for season 1, and it now has a 95% average as a result, barring new reviews coming in to change that (which may well happen). The show has a lower audience score with a 79%, but that’s still solid enough.
A common complaint with the show, like Stranger Things, is that the cast is just aging a lot between seasons, as kids that age grow fast. I mean, it’s true. Here’s Percy himself, Walker Scobel, in season 1:

If there keep being years-long gaps between seasons, this is going to get a little weird. But as long as the show is still good, I suppose we can overlook it. Here’s the synopsis for season 2 of Percy Jackson:
“In the second season, Percy returns to Camp Half-Blood a year later, where he learns that it is under threat from the forces of Kronos and Grover has gone missing, and must venture into the Sea of Monsters to find the Golden Fleece.”
A new adventure means a lot of new characters pulled from Greek mythology. Among those we know that have been added to the cast are:
- Daniel Diemer – Tyson
- Tamara Smart – Thalia Grace
- Andra Day – Athena
- Rosemarie DeWitt – Circe
- Aleks Paunovic – Polyphemus
- Sandra Bernhard, Kristen Schaal, Margaret Cho – The Gray Sisters
- Timothy Simons – Tantalus
There’s also the addition of Courtney B. Vance, who will replace Lance Reddick as Zeus in the series, as Reddick sadly passed away in 2023.
Percy Jackson has already been renewed for season 3, and has already been casting roles for that season, including Marvel’s Daphne Keen and Barbie’s Kate McKinnon as Aphrodite.

So, it seems as if Percy Jackson season 2 is going to be a good one. I am curious if fans are more impressed this time around, which could raise audience scores, but that remains to be seen. Since this is Disney Plus, the show is not being released as a binge drop. Two will air tomorrow, and then the show will run week to week until January 21. Given the incredibly early season 3 renewal, hopefully it will not be two years until we see season 3 drop.
